Daphne Keller and ACLU File Comment to Meta Oversight Board in "UK Drill Music" Case

The Program on Platform Regulation's Daphne Keller worked with the ACLU to file this comment to the Meta Oversight Board's "UK Drill Music" case.

The "UK Drill Music" case raised several overlapping issues affecting Internet users' rights, including:

  • Users' rights when governments act outside of established judicial processes to request that platforms "voluntarily" remove content under Terms of Service.
  • Risk of disparate impact on marginalized communities in law enforcement assessment of music about violence.
  • Impact of automated tools that suppress, regardless of context, all duplicates of content flagged for violating Terms of Service.
