Lindsay Popowski works on social computing systems: technologies that connect us together and mediate our social interactions. Her research focuses on online social media, studying the impact of particular designs and affordances, as well as designing and building new alternatives to re-envision how these platforms operate. Her work in the Social Media Lab has included (1) analyzing the form and function of quotation in short-form video (e.g., TikTok) and (2) assessing the functionality of mental models that users form of different algorithmic systems.
